Manual Safety Hammer & Adjustable Sear Installation
These instructions cover the installation and set-up of the Race Hammer Kit or any of our hammer kits that use our adjustable sear. Sear set screw adjustment is simple and straightforward, consequently these instructions must be adhered to when adjusting the sear set screw. Please read these instructions thoroughly.
Important Information on your Manual Safety and the CGW Hammer Kit
Once your installation is complete, your manual safety will operate differently with the new high-performance CGW parts. All high-performance hammers retime the action by changing the sear geometry. Once all parts and springs are installed, your manual safety will operate as follows:
- With the hammer down, the manual safety can be applied “up”
- With the hammer at half-cock, the manual safety can be applied “up”
- With the hammer at full-cock, the manual safety can be applied “up”, but the hammer cannot fall with a firm squeeze of the trigger
Please note the only time the manual safety should be applied regardless of what parts are being used, is when the hammer is at full cock. The manual safety function cannot be changed or altered when using a performance hammer. The manual safety should only be applied “up” or on when the pistol is fully cocked in the single-action mode. Never apply the safety up with the hammer fully lowered. Do not attempt to use the DA with the manual safety applied in the “up” or on position.
- The sear does not adjust the trigger pull in any way; it simply cannot. The sole purpose of the adjustable sear is to restore proper function of the manual safety when a performance hammer is installed.
- Before you install the CGW sear, thoroughly degrease the sear and set screw threads. Acetone works best for this. It is very important the threads be clean and dry. Leave the adjustment set screw out of the sear for now.
- Install the degreased adjustable sear into your sear cage. Be certain your sear cage is fully assembled before installation into the frame.
- Install the hammer assembly into the frame first, followed by the sear cage. Install the adjustment set screw. NOTE: proper adjustment of the set screw can only be accomplished with the hammer spring installed and the hammer spring plug in place, so normal hammer spring tension is applied to the hammer. This is critical for proper final setting of the set screw.
- The sear set screw is extremely simple and easy to properly set; it can only be adjusted one way.
- Sear screw adjustment consists of cocking the pistol in SA, applying the manual safety in the fully “up”, or safety on position, then turn the hardened adjustment screw in until slight contact with the manual safety pad is achieved. It’s just that simple. The set screw should make slight contact with the manual safety pad when done properly. Check for smooth, consistent upward movement of the manual safety. Do not back the set screw out once slight contact is made with the manual safety pad.
- Check to make sure the hammer will not fall with the safety in the “up” or on position when the hammer is fully cocked. Click the safety off; ensure the hammer will fall with no interference. There should be smooth movement of the manual safety to the safety “up” or on position.
- Once you are familiar with the proper adjustment “feel”, remove the adjustment screw, and apply a very small amount of “Red” Loctite to the adjustment set screw. Allow the Loctite to “wick” into the threads, but do not apply more Loctite than is needed. Make sure your Loctite is fresh for best results. Now perform the final adjustment as outlined previously. Once properly set, the sear will never require further adjustment and will be reliable and trouble-free for the life of the firearm.
- Allow at least sufficient time for the Loctite to cure, keeping any oil away from the set screw. Lightly oil the sear and sear cage unit as you normally would once the Loctite has fully cured.
Short Reset System Installation
The SRS is designed for use only in firing pin block safety equipped CZ pistols. The SRS works equally well in manual safety or decocker CZ models. Once properly installed, the SA trigger reset will be reduced 40-50%. The SRS also cuts the DA trigger pull by up to 50%, depending on which hammer spring you select. For range and competition use, HS-12000 is recommended. For the ultimate in reliability/self-defense, use our blue 13# (HS-13) hammer spring.
CAUTION: The SRS will not work in the CZ Omega or Shadow, 85 Combat, or very early 75 variants.
CAUTION: The SRS will not work with the OEM firing pin.
CAUTION: All parts in the SRS kit must be used.
CAUTION: You cannot use the stock OEM 20# hammer spring with the CGW extended firing pin
NOTE: do not mix springs with OEM springs. You must use all the springs supplied in the SRS or miss-fires will occur. The parts included in each kit are listed below:

The CZ internal firing pin block safety plunger requires a minimum of 3mm’s of trigger pre-travel to fully lift the plunger for 100% reliable operation. This means the shortest in SA is limited to around 3mm’s. This distance can vary from pistol to pistol, with the most being slightly more than 3mm.
To measure the reset distance, you measure from the center of the trigger’s radius. Keep in mind, if your trigger has no over-travel stop screw, this over-travel after the trigger breaks will affect the reset distance. This additional travel is not actually part of the reset, but it can adversely affect the reset distance. The utmost in a short reset is attained with an over-travel screw in the trigger.
