Carbon X is considered to be the big brother of DLC. Offering the same low friction coefficient while offering better resistance to abrasion. Carbon X is applied through a process called Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) and can be offered in a Satin or Polished finish. Carbon X comes in a nice dark grey color. We have found this to be a great replacement for the standard DLC coating. Carbon X has the following characteristics:
- Lowest Friction Coefficient
- Moderate Resistance to Abrasion & Scratches
- Low Corrosion Protection
- Offered in a Polished or Satin finish
What can Carbon X be applied to?
Carbon X can only be applied to metals such as carbon steel and stainless steel. It is appropriate for frames, slides, barrels and small parts. It cannot be applied to aluminum, brass or polymer.
How do I care for Carbon X?
Carbon X does not offer great corrosion resistance without a layer of oil applied to it. Micropores in the coating will hold on to the oil and prevent any sort of corrosion. This will need to be done every so often to prevent the coating from drying out.
